Jason Orlen of East Millsboro Elementary School and Jaime Swartz of John M. Clayton Elementary School have been named Delaware State Finalists for the 2022 Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST).

Jason was a finalist in the mathematics category for Grades K-6 while Jaime was a finalist in the science category for Grades K-6.

The Presidential Awards program was established by Congress in 1983 and are the highest honors bestowed by the United States government for excellence in K-12 mathematics and science teaching.

Up to three State Finalists in each award category, mathematics and science, are forwarded to a National Selection Committee composed of K–12 teachers, administrators, university professors and STEM education researchers who will meet to select the PAEMST awardees at the national level. The teachers chosen to be Presidential Awardees will be notified by the White House, honored in Washington, D.C., will receive $10,000 from the National Science Foundation, and join a cadre of award-winning teachers who can impact STEM education in Delaware and nationally.
