Mask Mandate Lifted by Governor

At its meeting on Monday evening, the Indian River Board of Education voted to make face coverings optional for students and staff in all IRSD schools effective at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 1.

The board’s action is consistent with Governor Carney’s order of February 28 terminating the COVID-19 State of Emergency and the masking requirement in public and private K-12 schools and childcare facilities. The announcement is also consistent with new masking guidance issued on February 25 by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Under the Governor’s order, masking in classrooms and on school buses will no longer be required for students, staff and visitors. However, families retain the option of having their child continue to wear a mask in the school building and on school buses.

The Indian River School District would like to thank all of its families for their patience and understanding during the past six months. We sincerely appreciate your cooperation during these challenging times.
