In accordance with Gov. Carney’s directive of April 24, 2020, all Indian River School District schools will now be closed for the remainder of the academic year. The district’s remote learning plan will continue. 

This closure includes all field trips and athletic events.

The district will continue to keep families informed through various communication tools, including our district website

Important IRSD Announcements
• The district will roll out the next phase of its remote learning plan on Monday, May 18. CLICK HERE for more information.
• The Board of Education has approved a series of calendar changes for the 2019-2020 school year. CLICK HERE for details.

Kindergarten registration for 2020-2021 is now being conducted electronically. CLICK HERE for more information.
• Bethany Beach Books has launched the Believing in Reading program with the goal of providing free books to IRSD students in need. CLICK HERE for more information on how to donate to this worthy cause.
• The district has implemented a Remote Learning Plan for students. CLICK HERE for details.
• The Indian River School District is offering "Drive Up Wifi" service at Sussex Central High School, Indian River High School, Phillip C. Showell Elementary School and Georgetown Elementary School as an option for staff and students to access the internet free of charge during the COVID-19 pandemic. • Beginning on Monday, April 20, all 14 public libraries in Sussex County will offer free Wifi hotspots outside their facilities.This service may assist students who need access to the internet for remote learning. For more information, visit

• The district is providing meals to students while school is closed. CLICK HERE for details.

• The Thrifty Eagle Store at the G.W. Carver Center in Frankford will be closed until further notice.
• is working with Amazon and the College Board to help ensure students who need laptops at home are able to finish their Advanced Placement (AP) computer science courses and take the exam this year. Laptops can be used for the AP exam and kept afterwards to inspire ongoing learning. Students can register at  Availability is first-come, first-served. This gift to students is made possible through a generous donation from Amazon Future Engineer.
The IRSD Community Food Pantry at the G.W. Carver Center will be closed until further notice.
• All IRSD Adult & Community Education classes are canceled until further notice. Make-up classes will be scheduled at a later date.
• The Indian River School District is cancelling all student field trips and will not permit the use of its school facilities by the community.

In addition, the Delaware Division of Public Health has opened a call center to take questions from the public, schools, medical providers, state agencies and community organizations. The call center can be reached by dialing 2-1-1. Hours of operation are 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
